ISCHIGUALASTO (Moon Valley) & TALAMPAYA – 04 Days/03 Nights
1º day: SAN JUAN. Reception, transfer to selected hotel. Accomodation. In the afternoon visit of the main attractives in the city.
2º day: SAN JUAN-VILLA UNIÓN. Visit to Park Talampaya: 215,000 hectares located in the southern area of La Rioja Province.
The reddish canyon walls reach 250 metres high, creating an impressive atmosphere for visitors. Traditionally, its oneiric shapes have inspired human imagination into naming different rocks after different items; for instance: the Monk, the Tower, the Gothic Cathedral, the Condor, and the Sphinx among many others. All you have to do is free your imagination and the rocky surroundings will come to life.
Also exceptional, is the petroglyph legacy, an interesting series of rock engravings in the area, showing geometrical shapes, animals and strange human forms. It is because of this natural and cultural richness that Talampaya National Park is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where archaeologists have even found remains from the first dinosaurs of the Triassic period (250 million years ago).
Other tour options at Talampaya National Park are: Cañón Arco Iris (Rainbow Canyon), and Ciudad Perdida (Lost City).
Transfer to “Cañon de Talampaya Hotel” and accommodation with Dinner at Hotel.
3º day: VILLA UNIÓN-SAN JUAN. Visit to Ischigualasto, known as “Valle de la Luna”, literary, “The Moon Valley”. The name is given because of the extremely arid landscape, slowly drawn by rain and wind over millions of year. The whim of nature created wonderful rock formations such as The Worm, The Sphinx, The Mushroom, The Submarine and The Bowling Court. A 60,369-hectare Provincial Park located in Northeast San Juan Province, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, like its Talampaya neighbour.
Because of its desert landscape, resembling the moon surface images we often see in documentaries and magazines, the park really transmits a feeling of visiting a place where time flows at a slow and unchanging pace. This is, evidently, the origin of its name.
Also from the Triassic period, the site includes a Palaeontology Museum, where visitors have access to dinosaur replicas from the first inhabitants of the planet, as well as the bone remains from the local archaeological discoveries. Return to San Juan and accommodation.
4ºday: SAN JUAN. After breakfast transfer to Local airport.
-03 nights accommodation with breakfast and local vat.
